Make yourself an honest man, and then you may be sure that there is one less scoundrel in the world.— Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) Scottish essayist and historian
If, like me, you wish for a better world, start with yourself. There can be no sounder advice than this. One step at a time. That’s the way of any journey.
Sure we have a long way to go. But, it is rue what they say. It is not just a platitude. The longest journey starts with its first step. That’s why every year I start with an examination of how I might make my world better by working on me.
A lot of people set a resolution each year with no intention to keep it. I set up four categories of goals – Spiritual; Family; Career; and Personal.. Then a minimum of three goals are set for each of these categories. It’s important to make these attainable goals. Then, it helps to write down a map for taking the baby steps necessary to get there from wherever the present “here” is.
Being honest, seems like a good and necessary step for almost all journeys. Not always easy, I know. Still, personal integrity, and honor are the beginning aren’t they? May your journey always be remarkable and filled with wonder and beauty!!
