Never A Good Thing

After some thought and careful consideration, I’ve decided to edit this post to reflect that it will stand as my response to the challenge to Day 26 of the Poem A Day challenge.  I am completely convinced that scientists in the future will look back on this whole cultural phenomenon of declaring something scientific in order to make political changes happen is just that and not science.  As such I think 100 years from now, our survivors will be considering an aberration that should never have happened and possibly remark on the strange duality that while on the one hand we have an extremely hedonistic society, we were also extremely self loathing.

A reflection on Earth Day when considered within reason and true science:

Never A Good Thing
by Michael Romani

Your thin patina of ideology
Has turned science into a theology
Settled science is an oxymoron
One well worth going for a tear on

Hypotheses require frequent modification
To believe otherwise evidences a lack of education
And when you ignore dissent from actual science
How can you consider yourself a person of conscience?

Public displays of self reckoned intelligence
Falls far short of its alleged brilliance
Claims of being pro-science turns into performance art
It provides almost no evidence of being smart

It's nothing short of excruciating and cringe-worthy
In its glaring dissonance of self elevated hypocrisy
A celebration of science making it a vague entity
By those who pledge a discomforting drone-like fealty

The refusal to subject these claims to scrutiny
Is the equal of high treason to you and me
The absence of any semblance of rigorous thought
Becomes a self delusional religion instead of truth sought

Science should never be subject to feeling
All facts begat more facts each in turn revealing
And in case you have somehow missed this
So much of this alleged science has become big business

In a step of recovery, please admit what cannot be shown
Is at best unknown and at most extremely overblown
That the claims made have not happened is inarguable fact
Yet, you still charge that it's all a manmade act

Modern day pagans are blind and deny observable truth
Claiming their allegiance to Gaia keeps them in their youth
They'll suffer no dissent to their secular religion
While claiming their adherents are almost legion

We heretics who dare to challenge this must all burn
Mere facts are nothing and so we unbelievers shall learn
There will be forced compliance with their worldview
Only politically correct orthodoxy will ever do

Jail or kill the dissenters and those jaded deniers
Is the battle plan and call of the progressive criers
Politicians on crusades to usurp tremendous power
Are the self proclaimed heroes of this dark hour

This despite the repeated claims turning out so wrong
Benighted chicken littles keep singing their same song
The alarmists try to scare us into giving up civilization
To hell with the high standards of living under industrialization

In 1970, civilization would end in 15 to 30 years
The death rate to come would drown the world in tears
Urban dwellers would wear gas masks for air pollution
If the world would not drink the Kool aid of their solution

In a peer reviewed world of lies and fake science
Very few dared to stand up in honest defiance
Yet, stand they must against gibberish papers of ideology
That transform the truth in the alchemy of the new theology

Civilization perches on the brink so very precariously
In a ruthless world lived out to the edge dangerously
Hijacked by ideologues with propaganda painted by partisans
Who undermine science and truth as something so artisan

... and that...is... never a good thing!!
