Day 28: In Cairo’s Deserted Air

Day 28 of the challenge was to attempt a Skeltonic  poem.  My attempt is based less on being dipodic as it is on criticism of the Catholic church for taking a very bizarre position and roughly keeping in the same format.  In the last couple of days, the Pope made his seventh outreach to Muslim leaders.  This time he did so while all but ignoring the plight of the Coptic church and to overtures to an Imam who has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood.  I can only shake my head at this sort of  leadership.

In Cairo's Deserted Air
by Michael Romani

In Cairo's deserted air
The people all stop and stare
To see Pope Francis there
As soldiers guard in fear
Stupefied by the mother's blessed tears
In the dark of terror for this year

The Pope makes his peace
With the beast
Taking from the many who have the least
And offers it up like a feast
Making his peace with the beast
                While disregarding the least

Seven trips to the Umma nation
Quite the interesting destination
I have to wonder at his fascination
As he casts aspersions at predestination
The Coptic mothers cry for their nation
The world turns too late in its procrastination
