Opportunity and Cost

Opportunity and Cost
by Michael Romani

Door opened; door closed
Dreams happened and supposed
Often extraordinary
Choices and opportunity

Fidget with your time
Wrestle with the lie
This is your chance
Go back or advance

Shoved into elbow room
Needed optimism or expendable gloom
Making profits off of misery
May be the path of history

But, it's not the path of the future
Not the way that we should nurture
Drawn lines on the proverbial sand
Is where your conscience takes a stand

With a bang it's a death stroke
Giving it up for going for broke
Searching through the web for clarity
In all the closeness of insincerity

Dredged up memories of yesterday
Certain there must be a better way
Horrified in moments of grief
That bleed away our belief

Half past a little too late
We allow fear to turn to hate
Tapped out with a break
We find ourselves unable to fake

Never counting the cost of our destiny
We lose ourselves to self inflicted misery
Shadow boxing through our mystery
We become our pages of history
