First Principles: Putting America First

“I want an American character, that the powers of Europe may be convinced we act for ourselves and not for others; this, in my judgment, is the only way to be respected abroad and happy at home.”  – George Washington (1795)

Some might find that a controversial notion.  I don’t.  I think every nation should put itself first and all citizens of each nation should be patriotic to those nations.  That includes the United States.

I had never thought that a controversial idea when I was in the military.  Today, I see so many finding that idea challenging, that I guess some do.  As for me, I would do it all again, serving my nation was an honor and a privilege.  It was also a duty that I am mindful to own as part of me.
