They Say Won The War
by Michael Romani
They say we won the war
But, I don't listen any more
I think we'll finally win a war
When we decide not to fight them any more
I had always wanted to be a sailor
But, I should have maybe been a tailor
Oh sure, I love to sail the seas
There's just too much death to please
Too many men like me in this great big world
Advancing across the oceans, battle flags unfurled
And no medals; not even the Navy Cross
Can ever erase the waste and loss

They say we won the war
But, I don't listen any more
I think we'll win at war
When we decide to study war no more
You can tell your tales of bravery
Of ships sunk in the name of glory
But between the Devil and deep blue sea
I'd rather save a friend than kill an enemy
Long, sleepless haunted nights
Memories of blazing fire fights
Tortured down deep into my soul
Crawling deep down into that dark hole

They say we won the war
I don't know how anyone can say for sure
But, I am pretty sure that we'll win at war
When we never have to fight them any more
