First Principles: The Federal Government Has Definitive Roles

“The government of the United States is a definite government, confined to specified objects. It is not like the state governments whose powers are more general.”– James Madison

This quote is taken from a speech in the House of Representatives on January 10, 1794.  One thing overlooked is that our republic’s federal government was not an overreaching state intruding into all areas of our lives.  By the Constitution, it has set parameters.   It is the individual states that are to handle other laws and legislation.  We would do well to remember this.
