Thought For the Day: Act Worthy of Yourselves

“The man who meanly will submit to wear a shackle, contemns the noblest gift of heaven, and impiously affronts the God that made him free.   Ease and prosperity (though pleasing for a day) have often sunk a people into effeminacy and sloth. Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of. Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves.” –  Dr. Joseph Warren, March 1775, in a Boston Oration

Some claim that religion has no place in the American public square.  Those who do, do so in either complete ignorance or with intended malfeasance.  Religion, particularly, tolerant (as originally defined and not as intolerantly espoused today) Christianity was indeed one of the sparks of the American Revolution.  If you mistakenly need evidence of this, please think on just what ‘inalienable’ rights are and who gave them each of us.  It was not government but God.

Memorial Day seems like a great day to bring this up in remembrance and reminder.  We have our small ‘r’ republican experiment as long as we remain eternally vigilant.  When we forget this, we allow someone to become our leader who seeks to fundamentally transform our nation.  While America has a need for growth this is done by Amendment (only) and not through judicial decrees that have nothing to do with justice really nor the Executive penning orders to the determent to the majority of America.

Now is the time for all good Americans to act worthy of ourselves.  We need to remember our heritage, learn and reincorporate the first principles of our nation.  These were arrived at through careful consideration by our Founding Fathers after much study and reflection on the historical record of mankind.  These principles were embodied in our Constitution including the Bill of Rights without which our Constitution would never have been ratified.

This then is what the American Service Member has put, does put and will put their lives on the line for.  That each of us  – past, present and into the future might live lives filled with freedom and opportunity.  This then is America.  America at her best.

We, at Aloha Promises Forever, proudly salute these American Service Members of whom we owe our debt of gratitude and thankfulness on this day.  Memorial Day.. the say we remember those who have given all, who do give all, and in the future will be asked again to give all.   Thank you for your service!
