... A Better Man
by Michael Romani
When we believe in our little lies
Reason gives way to our alibis
Until we soon give up the truth
That we fought so hard for in our youth
Caught up in all the complexity
Unravelling at the intensity
At moments no longer able to stand
Life's non-verbal sense of reprimand
The pain inside welters into my eyes
As I stand and stare up into the skies
Praying to God that I might be
A better man than the mirror sees
...And this is why I need you
Your love helps me to be this better man
In all the little things you say and do
With your heart in mine, I know that I can
