“It has been observed that a pure democracy if it were practicable would be the most perfect government. Experience has proved that no position is more false than this. The ancient democracies in which the people themselves deliberated never possessed one good feature of government. Their very character was tyranny; their figure deformity.” – Alexander Hamilton, from his Speech in New York, urging ratification of the U.S. Constitution (21 June 1788)

This folly follows into the modern age. I cannot count the number of times that I have had to correct over and over again that we live in a ‘republic’ not a Democracy. Each time I have been called out for my alleged ignorance by multiple persons on the Left. Then I point them to sources first, US Constitution, Article 4, Section 4 and the discussions found in The Federalist Papers and the notes from the convention from which our Constitution is derived. The Founding Fathers soundly defeated any notion that our country be a ‘democracy’. The historical record is replete with evidence that rule by mobbish mentality leads to disaster and tyranny.
