The story is told that a poet was scribbling fast and wrote the word Abracadabra accidentally forgetting the Rs. I don’t know that I’ve seen any proof of this. But, it’s a nice enough story and I’m sticking to it. Tonight’s workshop featured this form and this and another poem are the two that I wrote to practice the format.
To write the form, the method is:
• A 9 line poem
• Line-length and metrics at the discretion of the poet
• Rhyme pattern is minus the “r”s. – abacadaba
Poem 1 from this is:
A Magic Nine
by Michael Romani
Oh, that I might do this well
As to write of magic this night
If only I find the words to tell
What a tell my tale would tell
But, alas it seems that until
I find something worthy to say
It might be all just as well
That I dare not under the moon light
Even as your eyes cast their spell
