Time Spent With the Harvard Classics: The Story of the Volsungs and Niblungs

The Story of Sigurd the Volsung and the Fall of the Niblungs (1876) is an epic Icelandic poem of over 10,000 lines translated by William Morris and Eirikr Magnusson.  It is essentially an English retelling of the Volsunga Saga and the Elder Edda centering on the tale of Norse hero, Sigmund, his son, Sigurd and Sigurd’s wife Gudrun.    It is said to have had a great deal of influence on Andrew Lang and J. R. R. Tolkein.  It is said to be the tale of the North that is equivalent to the story of the Trojan War.
