Time Spent With the Harvard Classics: The Imitation of Christ – Thomas à Kempis

A Christian devotional written by Thomas a Kempis, this is a handbook for spiritual life deriving from the Devotio Moderna movement.  This religious classic may be the second most widely read Christian book next to The Bible.  It is divided into four books:  “Helpful Counsels of the Spiritual Life“;  “Directives For the Interior Life” ; “On Interior Consolation“; and “On the Blessed Sacrament“.  The major emphasizes here are withdrawal from the world into the interior life and devotion to the Eucharist.
