WordPress # Daily Prompt – Fog

Operatic Castle View

Castle, Home and Garden 2017 - Operatic Castle View

The early morning view of the castle grounds lay obscured under a bluish fog.  It was only matched the uncertainty of the young prince within the castle’s wall.  What right did he have to assume the throne once his father’s now certain death came?  His was merely and accident of birth enhanced perhaps by his tutor’s incessant interrogation into mental constructs.

The noblemen spoke often of divine rights.  It seems to the young prince that in coming to understand the classics from which his tutor taught that there was indeed much to be said for divine rights.  But, in the closest examination that his mind’s eye had to date allowed him, God’s rights given to men were given to all.  As such, these were inalienable gifts that God graced all with.

The young man wrestled with his quandary often.  No.  Until he felt he had proven his mettle to wear the crown and lead he would not allow himself to sit on the throne.  It seemed to often that the best advice and truest answers to his study questions and even in the governance of this kingdom, the best insight and truest answers came more often than not by listening to the sage advice of the more experienced.  And there in counter-opposition was his father, the King.  The King who was seemingly all knowing, all seeing and who hardly, if ever, questioned himself.

Until he could say the same about himself, the young prince thought, he had no business on the throne.  Certainly, it was tempting – it is often good to be king wasn’t it?  So much given to one man that he had often heard whispers of others who would like to be king.  Let them have that throne if it be theirs, the young prince thought.  No.  He would set out tomorrow to go on a quest to protect the Holy Lands.  Or, at least the pilgrims traveling to these lands… However, God almighty might be able to use him best.

This prince would not be king until he as certain he was ready to rule.  Tomorrow he would slip out unsuspected and begin his journey.  .. And so he did.. He left just before the morrow’s first light.
