Submerged Ballet

24 2015 - Imogen and the whale

Submerged
by Michael Romani

Submerged just below the blue
There is another world in my view
It's hard not to be passionate
For these things of the ocean
Living a life of the fortunate
This beauty pushes me into motion

Slipped into the tranquil sea
Where quiet hangs in mystery
It is a canvas of spilled paint
Refreshing this sinner into saint
This is the place where I belong
It's very salinity sings my blood's song

Most of the oceans are left to explore
They call to me in my want for more
Man has only splashed her wounded surface
Yet, she leaves us breathless; wordless
There are racing giants under this sea
I heed their mystical call to me

Humpback whales off the Tongan waters
Bring pride to island sons and daughters
Tail slaps and blowing at the surface
Only hint at the meaning and purpose
Majestic giants living lives of tenderness
Bring us a sense of well-being; even bliss

A mother and calf playing at games of love
Not so very different than it is above
Images of bonding brings this into scale
No mere trick of light; this is graceful tale
Dreams caught in splendid, massive spectacle
And of which there is no other known equal
