“How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is clearly Ocean.” – Arthur C. Clarke

Something like 75% of our world is covered in water. Most of it in oceans, seas and lakes. Yet, so few of us realize this reality that we call our planet Earth or Terra Firma. For those of us who have lived on the waters, be we surfers, sailors, divers or those who make their living off the world’s water’s, we love our connection to these. For all of us, all humanity, when we come to the waters of this planet, we have come home.
Home, a place of love and protection. It’s where we go to heal and be healed. It’s a place of joy and connection. It is home.
Today, rather dauntingly, there is a need that come from our home. There are things we need to explore. One of these is in understanding our home on a deeper level. Another, is to help protect our home and restore it where we have accidentally contributed toward putting our home out of balance.
Now is the time for us to reach out and determine reasoned courses of action to take in doing this. Now is also the time to abandon those things that have not worked. As stewards of this world in God’s name, we must not recklessly abandon human needs. But, we must also not ignore as this world of ours needlessly bleeds.
Our world has wounds. Some will require more than bandages. Some will require insightful measures taken that will take effort. That does not mean that we run like chicken little screaming the sky is falling when it is not. This world of ours is resilient. It also does not mean that where predictions are made time and again and fail that we call reliance on this concluded science and settled. But, it does mean we need to seek out answers and make the necessary and right efforts. I think that’s a worthy endeavor. Won’t you join me in it?
