Flood Protection

Beyond the shallows of the surface 
There is a life lived with Holy purpose
Applying the words we have read
Keeping these thoughts in my head

It gives me that special flood protection
Walking steadfast and accepting correction
Protecting against the wages of stress
By trusting in the God to whom I confess

All things to be worked out to the good
Turning out exactly as we know they should
The deeper life is a daily sort of a journey
Nailing down the list needed to live Holy

I know i need to love my neighbor as myself
Not just some words in a book on my shelf
Letting the words of God lead me rightly
Doing deep to be deep constantly and daily

Preach what you practice, practice what you preach
Lead by example letting your actions teach
Showing the love is more than saying the Word
It's a cross section that should always be blurred

Enduring the storms by my very foundation
Putting into action all of my contemplation
Faith without action is something worthless
But instead finding the truth and light of kindness

My life may be someone's only gospel known
So I must make sure that it's God's love shown
Reading into the words that might teach
And show us the way that just might reach

Turn all of that learning and reading to solutions
What it is that might be best in its contributions
To not just complain but to show better ways
This is the deeper way to live out our life's days

A little less grumbling and even less stumbling
Offering solutions that don't involve mumbling
But reaching out to make things work out better
That's the better way to get through bad weather

Asking not what others might do to change this
But rather asking what it is that maybe I miss
Making the decision to have more determination
To avoid the laziness of constant recrimination

Being unafraid to move with spiritual discernment
Looking with perspectives of praise and encouragement
There it is laid out as the only plan that fits us all
Ask what each should do and heed the Master's call

He or she who heeds these words and follow these
Does what matters like God's to be a healing breeze
It is in what we do every day and not just what we say
This is what makes the world better day by day
