The Book of Psalms or Tehillim meaning praises is the first book of the Ketuvim (“Writings“). This is the third section of the Hebrew Bible which to a Christian, of course, is known as the Old Testament. The title derives from Greek instrumental music and by extension “the words accompanying the music”. This is an anthology with 150 individual psalms in the Jewish and Christian tradition. There are further psalms under Eastern Orthodox. Although most modern Bible scholars do not accept this, many psalms are linked to the name of David.
