First Principles: Federal Government Grows In Times of War and Danger

“The operations of the federal government will be most extensive and important in times of war and danger; those of the State governments, in times of peace and security.”   – James Madison

With this in mind, I believe that we the people need to be leery of any calls from anyone sitting in the Federal Government who allows for or promotes an overly long period of conflict.  I believe that a war should be fought as a last measure but when fought with a definitiveness of purpose and a resolution that we get the battle over and done and we get back home.  Nation building is an experiment that should end.  Just war does not require we destroy our own nation in the process of fixing another’s myriad of usually self inflicted issues and concerns.

Perpetual war is too useful a device to give too much power to our Federal government and away from the States.   As such, it is in contradiction to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness through wise and good governance.
