The Prospector
by Michael Romani
Standing on the edge
Of the desert
Gone to the point of knowing
Nothing but hurt
Building life on a prayer
Knowing that it is somewhere
Refusing to stop dreaming
Refusing to stop believing
Pushing on despite the calls to stop
Hands desperately digging in the dirt
Finding nothing but deepening hurt
Pushing on as always, ever alert
Looking for gold in a copper desert
Until one day, he gets there
Having pushed out beyond all fear
Holding on because it's out there
And with the shedding of a final tear
He knows he's lived as a prospector
Having lived life as more than a spectator
With one last breath and head held high
He will live this way until he dies...
