“Born in other countries, yet believing you could be happy in this, our laws acknowledge, as they should do, your right to join us in society, conforming, as I doubt not you will do, to our established rules. That these rules shall be as equal as prudential considerations will admit, will certainly be the aim of our legislatures, general and particular.” – Thomas Jefferson

Conforming to.. not overriding. To be honest, I don’t quite get the controversy. Immigration rules do change per the legislature’s making changes to law. But, every nation has immigration laws. It’s been that way as long as there have been nations. One President’s misuse of his ability to make executive orders does not change that fact. Nor, does the next President stating that we will now have a return to law as it’s always been done prior to the last guy make that President’s decision out of order. It is, in point of fact, how our nation is returned to being a nation under the rule of law and not the arbitrary and capricious whims of individuals. It’s what a law abiding nation does.
