Time Spent With the Harvard Classics: Sonnets From the Portuguese – Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Elizabeth Barret Browning wrote Sonnets From the Portuguese from 1845 to 1846.  It is a collection of 44 love sonnets.   Interestingly, the story is that originally the title was to be Sonnets From the Bosnian.  Robert Browning had always called his love, his “little Portuguese”.  He talked his wife into changing the title.  This may possibly be the last argument successfully won by a husband….
