I have decided to change the name of this exploration of music into “Sonic Gems”. These are the game changers that have left a notable impression on the music world. As such, they deserve a decent listen.
James Ramey was born on August 17, 1944. He died as a young man on October 28, 1970. He was the front man of the band Baby Huey & the Babysitters. Their only album was became a huge influence on the development of hip hop.
The album was released after Ramey died. It did not sell well. After some time as hip hop was starting to come up this album was cited over and over again by musicians in this genre as a huge influence. Many of these folks sampled the tunes on here for use in their own compositions. Today, it is considered a classic.
Again, not my usual foray in the music world. I did, however, find it to have awesome drums and cannot say that I find hardly a moment when this music does not speak to my soul. I think it’s a little into that genre that I would stick Edgar Winter. Loved the vocals and the drum work. On a scale of 1-10, I would give this an 8 if 10 was the top.
