Rearview Mirror Confessions
by Michael Romani
There it is, twice as big and as rich as life
The passage back is filled with strife
An early morning self examination before surf
In another endless moment of peace without mirth
On this fifth day of Christmas in its golden rings
There is the peace of the truth knowing what the Torah brings
Finding God in my ego's ashes is the easiest part
The hard part is ingraining it so it's written on my heart
In a concession of awareness of His transcendental power
My rearview mirror confessions would fill an endless hour
There in the tortured moments of my incurable humanity
I fall on my knees in a prayer hoping to bring life sanity
My human pride strives so very hard to deny
The truth that I have lived close as eye to eye
Sick and without hope but for His divine intervention
Our path of salvation is the cross's true intention
Here I stand holding firm to the five golden rings
I learn my roots and all the lessons this brings
Lost deep within this fifth day of Christmastide
I find my place in the warmth of study and lose my pride
