Black Was the Color
by Michael Romani
In a moment's inspiration
Black was the color of the evening
Meant to fire up conversation
As deep as its meaning
In a tailoring of artful seeming
There's an artistry in this dreaming
Stripped of petty distraction
It's a refinement of clarification
In a town caught up in hilarity
A decision was made for solidarity
In a forced conversation made stridently
All for the cause taken passionately
Structural change is needed
The call for justice is heeded
In this paradox to be played on
It was a cause to state this must be gone
In a fight against harassment revealed
The verbal outfits were unveiled
On the red carpet of participation
Support was gathered without hesitation
A new day dawning is heralded by
A phenomenal display meant for the eye
It was a wearing of black, balance and inclusion
In a hope that righting this wrong was not illusion
No more toleration of the harassment
Black was the color and what it meant
A fashion statement of necessity
All in the name of a fairer community
