Gestures To Hope
by Michael Romani
A shadow hangs over the dinner table
In a manifestation of what we are capable
As our fixation on intolerant ideology
Marks the vandalization of our history
Peace and good will for a few days a year
Then back to the dark mood of life lived in a tear
Hope's fleeting attendance like winter in summer
Is like a rimshot, catwalk from an out of time drummer
Caught up in off-tempo leaps and bounds
Fragile humanity offers irrepressible sounds
A buddleia peeks through all the urban decay
In an exercise of life finding its own way
