Black night rolls in dark and long
Mother Wolf bays her moonlit song
Shep encircles and tends the sheep
Taking them to safety and for them to keep
Safe into this dark, cold night
Safe until the morning’s first light
Life, they say, is such a fragile thing
And to this all shepherd’s bring
A sense of peace and of solemn safety
Out of love and in their duty
In their quest of earnest nobility
They keep guard with honor and sensibility
In a tradition handed down as a given
It’s an honest day’s work that he is living
