Formed in 1969, originally as Eric Burdon and War, War is an American funk cross-over band from Long Beach, California. This band fused elements of rock, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues and reggae. Their best known hit songs are Spill the Wine, The World Is A Ghetto, Why Can’t We Be Friends?, Low Rider and Summer. This band managed to transcend racial and cultural barriers with its multi-ethnic line-up.
Why Can’t We Be Friends? was released as War’s seventh studio album on June 16, 1975. Two singles from this album were nominated for the 1976 Grammy Awards. These were Why Can’t We Be Friends? and Low Rider. For the band’s tireless efforts to not only inventory the issues of inner city but to advocate for reasonable solutions and promotion of the universality of mankind’s shared goals and aspirations, Aloha Promises Forever couples this with the easily discerned and consequential musicianship of the band and rates this album a 10 out of 10.
