First In Fly

First In Fly
by Michael Romani

Snappy little title, "First In Fly"
If you're like me, you might wonder why
Seen as ubiquitous and ordinary
Drosophila's contributions are extraordinary

Tiny winged creature so different from me
You teach so much about the human body
From circadian rhythm to limbs that sprout
Step by step, this little fly helps remove doubt

Fly pushers push into the molecular biology
Coaxing and conveying strains of ingenuity
Phenotypes of latent mutant embryos
Give us glimpses of truth, so the story goes
