A Brief History of Stephen Hawking
by Michael Romani
His life lived as a triumph of human reason
Stephen Hawking's life was too brief a season
Spent in search of knowing God's mind
Despite his faith and belief being left behind
An extraordinary and singular kind of man
Whose life's work goes way beyond legacy
Doing as much as one man is able and can
To reduce the puzzle of our universe's mystery
Debilitated by Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis' paralysis
This did nothing to deter his astute analysis
Never one to fear answers to questions needed
His quick mind ensured pronouncements to be heeded
Distance and time are but mental calibrations
Brought about by mortal man's needy fascination
Seeking to understand the infiniteness of eternity
We become caught up in reaching out for our destiny
In the treasured wealth of our dear Mother Earth
In her measured health that brings tears and mirth
Children are born each day that maybe should not be
From Mozart to Hawking, God's grace burns their legacy
