Unplugged
by Michael Romani
Caught up in post-internet postulations
A living algorithm of gesticulations
I have become aware that my indulgence
Requires nothing short of repentance
Hunched over with my eyeballs strained
This constant bombardment hurts my brain
Now, I know things could be lot worse
But, I had to find a way to reverse
These stages of post-human transformation
All in the name of up-to-date information
I don't mean to sound like I was bugging
Still, it had become clear that I needed unplugging
Smashed cellphone ala mode crushed by dress shoe
Melted down like some kind of modern dragon slew
My freedom was good with this silicon debt
Digital slavery had drawn its last breath
Freed from the chains of all of this digital bondage
I wore my pride of self like some honorable bandage
Devouring stacks of newspapers loosely unfurled
Mountains of pages of odious columns demurred
The raw fiber of news best absorbed directly
Clarity descended to threaten ascetic clarity
Yesterday's news bled into tomorrow's headlines
As the cocoon closes on my emotional landmines
Doubts mount shattering my silent delirium
Over missed messages tatting my equilibrium
The lost joy of buzzing and moments of grief
Give way to the despair and gnashing of teeth
Once felt, the coursing of information in your brain
Needs to stay or you feel that all is in vain
