Palm Sunday 2018
by Michael Romani
In the mindset of the times
A saint's acts could be crimes
But even the king had come
To learn of the coming Kingdom
Wall to wall in observance
Passover spoke of perseverance
To push off the chains of tyranny
The people stood against monarchy
Palm branches spread by the roadside
As a way of flexing their national pride
Surprised by their king on a donkey
Wondering at this moment of sanctimony
Sitting there in all of His sincere humility
He came to give His life for you and me
Ready to give all on that wicked cross
That He might wash away all of our loss
So startling to their eager expectation
How could this be savior of His nation
King of the universe rode in humility
It seemed out of keeping with His dignity
But God, you see, has surpassing wisdom
And His own way to bring about His Kingdom
The grace, amazingly played, like a sweet song
Would, in giving His life, allow all to belong
