Scribble and A Scratch
by Michael Romani
With a scribble and a scratch
My words flow together
Sometimes in prose; sometimes in verse
Hopefully, for the better
Always filled with hope
That I might have something to say
Just keep putting it out there
Any ole way -
Finding my own soul
Isn't taught at a university
Those schools seem more locked up
In teaching branded perversity
They said, "(G)o to the Mainland;
Boy, you need an education"
I wonder what they'd think
Of what I found at that destination
Sometimes, there's no going home
Not for me; I've changed too much
I just hope and I pray
That I've not lost my island touch
My life has been its journey
Without much of an intentional destination
I've lived as I've loved
And in my daughters find my greatest fascination
Jaded tears pour out of my eyes
But, I found the perfect wave in them
Faded years, living sunrise to sunrise
At least, I've got to love them before my eyes go dim
And now I know at least one thing
That is, what love really means
I'll ride this wave through to the end
Knowing I've had a part in two beautiful human beings
