Blank Verse For the Conforming Poet
by Michael Romani
Listen she tells me that often enough
It's a simple thing to learn if you try
But it's often things so simple that I
Find so very hard to do so it seems
To be and to conform to the rigid
Lines of blank verse is hard for me to do
Marching in place while I try to play this
Leaves me feeling contrived but I do so
Because I would strive to be a poet
And a good one if I might be one day
Now if only I might follow this form
And say something worth the saying today
