Burger, Shake and Fries

At times, I have little regard for consequences
Being madly caught up in the references
Served up samples of nostalgia on a bun
All of it speaks of a life well done

The burger, the shake and the fries
Each of these imbued with their American ties
Sometimes seen as parables of the small town
Others, as the product of a billion dollar clown

Comfort foods stay with us a lifetime
Indelibly stuck as aromatic and sublime
Cheap, efficient and oh so predictable
It doesn't hurt being so entirely palatable

The taste of triumph is the American way
A streamlined encapsulation of our modern day
Fast food is delicious, cheap and.. lethal
A unique balance we have too readily tabled
