Sometimes, things are not in a person’s control.  Every attempt has been made to do the right thing and still it turns out so very wrong.

Missed Your Eleventh

I sit on the couch alone
Wishing my heart was stone
Thinking on promises made
Feeling sad and a bit afraid

My darling, sweet daughter
I am so proud to be your father
I will never forget your birth
A time of joy and of mirth

But, now the clock hands tick
Away the moments that stick
And I wonder if I will see you again
My darling daughter and my friend

Reaching my hands out in prayer
I sit; I stand; I sit again
Looking into the distance as I stare
Lost without my eldest, hoping to see you again

I lift my words to heaven
At being without you as you turn eleven
I wonder if you feel my broken heart
And know that I've loved you from the start

Two months now, we've been separated
Your daddy feels sad, lonely and frustrated
Do you know that you're everything to your father?
...And that I love you, my eldest daughter

I miss your crystalline eyes of precious blue
And most of all, I miss that heart that is you
All the time we have sat cuddled and talked
All the miles that we have walked

Walked hand in hand as you shared your views
On everything from fashion to music and news
And I wonder if I will ever see you again
I miss you my daughter and my sweetest friend

I lift my words to heaven 
At being without you as you turn eleven
I wonder if you feel my broken heart
And know that I've loved you from the start

The tears, they keep flowing from my eyes
As I whisper your name up to the skies
As though it might do some good
And hopeful that your daddy's love is understood

I am so sorry that I have missed your birthday
And I hope that each day is special in every way
When you look up to the moon, I hope you remember
That I love you to the moon and back, please remember
