Out under the street lights
I’ve spent one too many nights
Chasing the neon gods of rock
Pursuing my craft instead of small talk
Like a street busker playing
Thinking the magic would be staying
Until one day I put it all away
Down into the basement to stay
After being told it was shaking the house
Scaring my daughters – I’d be quiet as a mouse
Marriage ended, visitation came and they found
My one remaining guitar and brought it around
“Play for us, Daddy please”, as we dance, “just play”
A tear rolled down as I played, nothing left to say
