The world has a monkey on its back. It’s the darkness inside us all.
Still the Monkey Grins by Michael Romani Born innocent Victims to the sins The sins of the father Eden's fall set the precedent Banished, cast before the winds Exiled into the farther Don't blame the children For this world gone wrong It is not their fault The monkey grins his evil grin Questioning the ways of the strong Here within Mephisto's waltz The monsters created Never asked for life Lived as they bled Selfishly wished sedated Are the voices yearning for peace not strife Born into this hell that cannot be fled Science lies to itself Swearing its not to blame All that was done, was done for truth As though wisdom is a thing on the shelf And life merely a matter of pawns in a game It's only collateral damage in what's taught our youth Lightening crashes into flesh As amorality claims its own Screaming that the past is dead Bleeding out into societal stress That cuts deep into the bone The price of rationalizing crimes inside our heads Touch the tombstones written As the children walk with our sins Wonder at the price to be paid As darkness grips and we are bitten While still the monkey grins So much for all the plans we had made (c) November 26, 2018 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
