The Greatest of All Time

What then goes in proper rhyme
To the notion of the greatest of all time
Bust to realize the braggadocio is absurd
And perhaps, will never be true to its word

Cultural touchstone to spark an argument
That will never be won no matter how eloquent
It seems to be that no matter how reflective
Or choking hard in overblown invective

That history always finds its correction
To false claims regardless of their direction
Gathering up all the history in our collective
There is no final truth that is objective

Defining eras of myth making legacies
Tales of greatness across the centuries
Teased on the cover of glossy magazine
Is this the way to gauge truth unseen

Chasing well the deep pursuit of the excellent
Is as it should be by any warrior's measurement
But to pretend to know what hasn't come yet
Often proves the false choice we laughingly regret
