Polemics and Passion

Lessons are learned about injustice and how love can reach past those injustices.  Where there is love, it will always find its way.

Polemics and Passion
by Michael Romani

Polemics and passion
Caught in moonlight
Tropes that fashion
But never get it right

Not quite
Even in that moonlight
Connections in the family
Neighborhood and community

Serve us in connection
Solemn but loving in correction
Beyond the detection
Of this inquisition's circumspection

Two young lovers
Love as lovers do
Like pages between covers
Struggling to see it through

False accusations fly
No one left to deny
But those who believe
And refuse to accept and conceive

The need for hope is resurgent
Desperate in need so urgent
Taking hold in introduction
Mindful of the innocent's seduction

Jump street to swooning past
Sober present returns too fast
Assurance given both ways
That there will be better days

If only they hold on strong
Somehow right is born from wrong
Holding onto hope through despair
Needing a miracle out of nowhere

The prison of dehumanization
Strikes at the heart of this nation
Cycling in structures as cynical
As it is cold and clinical

The brutality stares through our bars
The night's silence broken with cars
Driving by in a rush and without seeing
Filled with humans too busy for being
