“Every master of slaves is born a petty tyrant. They bring the judgement of heaven upon a country. As nations cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, they must be in this. By an inevitable chain of causes and effects, Providence punishes national sins by national calamities.” – George Mason, Founding Father

That calamity indeed came in the form of the Civil War. But along the way there were countless depravations that our nation suffered by allowing this petty and merciless tyranny to coexist along side our republican values.
And still today slavery exists more so outside the United State than here. Yet, it does remain here even to today and so very few voices are lifted against its indignities here or abroad. What has to wonder that makes a person feel so superior to another that the would enslave that person or persons?
