Neon came and mostly went in the 20th Century. Neon lights and even neon knights have made their mark. But, like some other things in this age of rapid change, their time appears to have come and gone.
Neon Century by Michael Romani Stepped up pages from tomorrow's history Neon shapes illuminate the gallery Once upon a night time's glowing Neon, krypton and xenon knew all the knowing How to light the way in the night Electric lights over candlelight Signifier of grand modern ambition Destroyer of simpler traditions Now these too disappear into the mist Purveyors of soulful Broadway's kiss They've held their day but mostly night As the modern age follows a different light Long seen as beacons shining their poetic night Neon was the essence of cities at first sight Uniquely artistic since their introduction Handcrafted Neon was never a subject of mass production Glass tubing filled with gaseous electrification Carbon dioxide white and mercury blue amplification Lit up the world of tomorrow's extraordinary By magnificently infusing elements quite ordinary Sometime around early 70s, neon use began to decline Into all but art and memories such as held as mine We had lived through the swagger of the neon century And now only a handful artisans are left as legacy (c) May 8, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
