Tales of the American Heartland…
Heartland United by Michael Romani We have one heartland united In a nation too divided Filled with hop and our heartbreak The nation's heart awakes From Nebraska to the Central Valley There is a flavor of sentimentality Bucking horse rebel at precision Not caring a whit for sophists derision It resonates as genuine not phony When we sing our songs of Ole Glory All these dreams chased around and round Drifting as we do from town to town Chasing down that open road An American mythology retold With a lullaby of simplicity It's mostly a matter of integrity A man's bond sealed with a handshake A whispered sorry to our last mistake Promises made and promises kept Smiles smiled and tears wept There's a plaintive tone to the tune Where a lilting melody plays under the moon High to the top of an American dream Where gearheads and hitchhikers careen A Feeling of freedom gives birth to celebration As fine patriots wave flags across the nation Somewhere north of Nashville, 4th of July is coming And just across the way, another guitarist is strumming (c) June 14, 2019 Michael Romani All Rights Reserved
