To my neighbors to the North and the one always on my mind and in my heart! Happy Canada Day!!

So, what exactly is Canada Day about?
I’m very glad you asked. Formerly known as Dominion Day, Canada Day celebrates the effective date of the Constitution Act that joined Province of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into on Dominion within the British Empire. On that date Canada became, in effect, its own kingdom within the larger empire.
This led to increasing independence and autonomy that led to the 1931 passage of the Statute of Westminster. Then finally, the Constitution Act of 1982 gave Canada it’s full independence as its own country with its own Constitution.
At least, that’s my understanding. I did not know until just recently that O Canada did not become the official anthem until 1980.
Thank you, Canada, for being our beautiful neighbor to the North!
