We Who Damn Ourselves

Halloween Poem #19:

Bay City - Expresso Yourself

We Who Damn Ourselves
by Michael Romani

We damn ourselves
To our own private hells
Dwelling on all
Of the tiniest details

In a world grown cold
We lose all hope
All of our dreams bought and sold
We're hanging on to the end of our ropes

The price to pay
When we've come to the ends of days
And we've found no other way
Is learning, forgiveness proves elusive

It seems to easy
To be our own monsters
Reaching always for the contrary
Of all the evidence seen

It's the undeserved mercy
That we cling to
Though it seems such a heresy
To all that we've been through

All our evil is too hard to ignore
Yet, we find our desperate way
Begging eyes speak seeking to implore
When we have no words worthy to say
