First Principles: There Must Never Be A Separation of Religious Values From the Lives of Public Servants

“We need to remember that the separation of church and state must never mean the separation of religious values from the lives of public servants. . . If we who serve free men today are to differ from the tyrants of this age, we must balance the powers in our hands with God in our hearts.” – Lyndon B. Johnson

It is striking that when reviewing quotes for this series that I have been doing that I find that it is not until the middle of the 19th century that the Democratic president quotes so far the only ones that speak of separation of Church and state and that it isn’t until the latter part of the 20th of Century that it’s found that the Democratic presidents seem to have mostly abandoned the founding principles of our republic.
