Long Time, No Talk
by Michael Doyle
Though the Lord is my shepherd
I think you know, Lord, that it's inferred
That though I should not, yet I do
It's been a long time since I've talked to you
Standing as I am amidst life's mystery
Wondering at all that has passed before me
I marvel at what passes for melody
And am desperately in need of your harmony
Like a prodigal son, you welcome me
Opening my eyes daily to what I see
It has taken adjustment to my attitude
Yet, my heart remains filled with gratitude
There has come a time to keep things real
Here in this almost too late time to heal
And though my questions might feel an inquisition
What I have in mind is deep conversation
Anchored as we are by demands of propriety
My questions might not be the best for polite society
Here we are now alone, just us, face to face
What I need, Father, amounts to your grace
