Deepest Roots
by Michael Doyle
Cast about with questioning looks
There's much to be learned from great books
When we unlock our dulled hesitations
And dare to ask the great questions
Although the human spirit is quite flappable
It doesn't take a lot to realize, we are unconquerable
How is it though that we from youth to old age
And how might it be, we become wise as a fallen sage
There is much searching in our fragile youth
As we go about grasping at straws we call truth
Determining our course to come in our passing days
Set fast as it is in our incalculable ways
The decisions that we determine and precisely make
Ours is the essence of things that we cannot shake
Young Werther himself knew of this greatest sorrow
And Goethe was determined to pave from this tomorrow
Life should be lived determined with fullest passion
With all of that love of life and pleasure of fashion
Shaken as it is with the stirring of private resolution
When it is spoken aloud, it leads to many a revolution
