Books Read Throughout Life
by Michael Doyle
In a repeated mantra of life
In all the things we have sought
There is the truth reflected
In lessons accidentally taught
In this and all stages of life
We find it's worth another look
To sit and quietly curl up
With yet another well read book
Experience makes us more reflective
As our eyes stumble across words
Finding hope in all the connectives
That offer us lessons yet to learn
Youth offers Hamlet's final excuse
For all that is gotten terribly wrong
In its vengeance ill-taken
Where the golden rule never belongs
Mediocre minds tend to look for the less
As if the world did not know better
And failed perhaps yet to guess
That Shakespeare wrote from his own space
Genius that offered bits of tragic comedy
Alongside a playwright's staged nobility
It had not need to give us steep philosophy
To provide its lessons for you and for me
