Giving Up On Being Superman
by Michael Doyle
Those of us who wished to be a superman
Have mostly ended up seeming like Peter Pan
There comes a time when it becomes best
To put such delusions to their rest
Having hit the wall without a sip from the cup
It might well tell us that the time is up
And despite all the comic book sense of inspiration
Nothing has come from our ceaseless dedication
No CGI can make us the least like Superman
Perhaps it is time for satisfaction as an ordinary man
And that, after all, is no reason to be at all sad
At least we can put away the sore muscles we've had
Pulling the thunderbolts down from the skies
Does not make us into any more nobler of guys
And the best strength comes from strength of heart
Listening with compassion is really the best start
It may not be near as legendary in style
But it suits well to our ladies in their smiles
That last farther than the longest miles
This is surer to make and keep love for a longer while
